Lessons

Growing Together

~~~~We are accepting new students for the Winter Season!~~~~
Each lesson is tailored to the rider's experience. We have a set of incredible lesson horses that are some of the safest you will find. We teach riders age 5 and up, beginners to advanced. We offer both private and group lessons. We have late evening lessons also to accommodate those with busy schedules getting out of school and work. We feel that the safest way to teach is to always listen to the rider...we work hard to ensure riders are not held back and that they feel comfortable and confident at all times. Our lessons are typically 1 hour long. Many farms include getting the horse ready (known as "tacking up") as part of the lesson time...often jipping the rider a lot of time. The more time you spend in the saddle, the better rider you become, which is why we do not do this. We encourage riders to arrive atleast 20 minutes before their lesson to tack up their horse and be on by the lesson start. We provide quality riding instruction during every lesson. We also teach full all around horse care. We encourage students to stay, relax, and spend time with the horses.
Training
Your partner
Horse training is offered here at the farm as well as offsite.  We believe each horse is an individual with different needs. You will never hear us call an animal an "it", always "hes" and "shes" and they are treated with softness, kindness, and respect.
The facility:
We are set on 20 acres and offer year round riding instruction and training. We have a large 180x 70 ft indoor arena connected to the barn with heated viewing lounge. We also have a large 200x80 ft outdoor arena. Hot/cold wash stalls, heated bathroom and feed rooms, and large and small tack room.
About North Windsor Farm LLC
Life was much simpler 100 years ago. We try to bring people back to nature and what better way to do that than by horses. Most horse people would agree there is no better life teacher than the horse. We offer horse training and lessons for all. Beginners are welcomed with open arms. We are conveniently located on a quiet road off Route 12 in Flemington, NJ in Hunterdon County. Chrissy Lummer
Owner/Trainer
Chrissy started riding Hunter/Jumper as a young child. She learned from many different instructors and horse trainers through her child and teen years who gave her a solid foundation in hunt seat riding. When she was old enough to work, along with her sister she cared for a large collection of about 40 horses and ponies. She would ride from sunup to sundown learning from the horses. A lot of the horses were green broke and inexperienced and she would teach them the basics and to jump.  She also rode with the University of Delaware Equestrian Team for 4 years. During her early riding career, she began training boarder's horses and sale horses, a collection of very green horses, ponies, OTTBs-you name it, a group that quickly developed into nearly 2 dozen. During this time, she spent many years with young, inexperienced horses, learning and perfecting ways to teach them to be more balanced and responsive to natural aids. From riding green broke horses for a great deal of her life, and training them on the flat and over fences, she developed into a very soft yet confident rider who not only understands the way horses behave in theory but also in practice. Afterward, she further branched out to learn from more professionals in the industry, gaining several teaching and training jobs in Hunterdon County. With her passion for training, she worked often with green and sale horses. She has had many successes with horses she retrained or trained herself. She has also worked with troubled horses at barns, both business and private.  At age 24 she rescued her first horse from auction, a 9 year old super intelligent, one- of-a-kind fast Saddlebred x Morgan with spooking/bolting issue. She bought him after meeting him & watching him go for 5 minutes. She rides him to this day and taught him to jump and ride completely tackless with nothing (no saddle, no bridle, no halter, no neckrope). Her experiences range from drill teams and therapeutic to teaching many riders and horses and helping them to reach their potential. She considers her style based on trust, positive reinforcement, and patience. She has always gravitated towards working with troubled horses and spent several years as Assistant trainer at a farm that specialized in retraining the unfixables.  She has taught and trained at many different farms throughout NJ, from upper level show barns to backyard farms. As an instructor and now in her 30s, she is known for being attentive, patient, and encouraging and listening to students. Too often you see instructors on their phones, not paying attention, holding students back, or pressuring them to do things they are not comfortable doing. She is all about safety and as a teacher and instructor, she emphasizes understanding between horse & rider, as well as how to ride with your seat and correctly use your position and natural aids to be more effective.
Cindy Lummer
Trainer
Cindy came from the same hunt seat background as her sister. She spent 4 years on the Cazenovia College Varsity Equestrian Team, riding and showing in the hunt seat division of IHSA under the coaching of Amy Sherrick von Schiller. A top-ranker in its region in NY state and known nationally for its facility, Cazenovia gave Cindy a thorough understanding of hunt seat equitation through not only experience and the teaching of her instructors but also through written classes on the discipline. Cindy has ridden ponies to equitation horses to hunter horses and has been described as capable of "getting along" with many types of horses. She is, like her sister, a very soft rider who likes to work with horses in a simple snaffle. After graduating, Cindy began teaching at several barns in New Jersey and continues to teach and train to this day now in her 30s. She has knowledge of equitation and position combined with an understanding of how children learn to ride. Along with her sister, she has worked with green and difficult horses, many for sale, first-hand throughout her life at many farms in New Jersey.
